FREDERICKSBURG PET PHOTOGRAPHY
In the heart of Virginia’s horse and winery region is Fredericksburg. The colonial city is steeped in American history (it was the childhood home of George Washington) and has a vast access to the National Parks.
In 2023, Cynthia Pixley joined professional photographers around the globe to make a difference for pets in need with 'Tails of the World'. This unique collaborative project celebrates dogs with an annual coffee table book and our latest volume has raised over $65,000 for animal rescue!
Cynthia raised US$600 for Animal Awareness and Assistance with six shoots around Fredericksburg. She chose locations with natural beauty and historical significance. The "Bloody Angle" in Spotsylvania Battlefield Park is a monument to one of the most intense battles of the Civil War. Alum Spring Park is a 34-acre woodland retreat, named for the spring that is found at the end of the 100 million year old sandstone cliffs.
The historic Dowd Farmhouse in Spotsylvania (established in 1735) has survived civil war, earth quakes and hurricanes. Now it is the peaceful home of the Second Chance Crew. Hazelwild Farm Camp is another Fredericksburg landmark. In the Sixties, a teacher named Anna Morrison (Aunt Sissy) converted it from a working dairy farm to a camp and day school. Today, it is a nonprofit organisation that houses an equestrian center and day school. Many of the equestrians of Fredericksburg owe their training to Aunt Sissy.
